Triathlon Challenge in Roth: New World Record Set With CEP

Just as Timo Bracht a week before, Yvonne van Vlerken breaks all records at the long distance triathlon with compressive sport socks

At the Quelle Challenge in Roth in 2008 Yvonne van Vlerken from the Netherlands beat the long distance record for women by a whole five minutes with a time of 8:45.48 hours. She crossed the finish line as the winner wearing compressive sport socks made by CEP. At this event the fourteen-year-old record was broken which had been set by the American Paula Newby-Fraser years before also in Roth. On the same day Frank Vytrisal from the German town of Darmstadt, who was also wearing CEP running O2 sportsocks, qualified for the world championships in Hawaii while coming in third at IRONMAN Switzerland in Zurich.

"It was pretty damn hard in that weather. I am totally exhausted. A time of 8:40 hours would also have been possible if it wouldn't have rained“, commented van Vlerken at the finish. The 29-year-old would like to improve the world record once again next year. Just like Timo Bracht, who came in third at IRONMAN Europe in Frankfurt, Yvonne van Vlerken ran the marathon distance with compressive sports socks made by CEP which is located in the Bavarian town of Himmelkron. What is striking is that both world class athletes outran their competition only in the last 42 kilometers of the run. In Frankfurt Bracht ran the top time of the marathon. Yvonne van Vlerken even started with a deficit of more than eight minutes and demonstrated that even a deficit of these dimensions does not pose a challenge. Surely the compressive sport socks made a small contribution to the success.

The positive effects of compressive sport socks on athletic performance was analyzed at the University at Erlangen/Nuremberg and Dresden University. The results are undeniable: test persons exhibited an increase in performance of up to five percent. In high performance sports this could mean the difference
